The only thing I'd disegree with you on Gill, is calling the RCN a 'union', which, of course, it isn't. It says much that the leadership of UNISON is in a bloc with this elitist professional body to try and force a pay cut on its NHS members.

A 3 year deal of this nature can only be designed to deliver 'peace' in the NHS up the next General Election.

Not in my name!

Hi Gill,

As one member of the UNISON Health Service Group Executive who has no desire at all to recommend this three-year pay-cut, can I seek to reassure you that the actions you report in your blog posting of UNISON negotiators walking out of joint union talks to secure a deal directly with the government were not done with the knowledge of the elected UNISON leadership in the health service. The last thing we knew was that the multi-year talks had been suspended pending the PRB announcement, and the news today that a three-year deal has been cooked up is probably as much of a surprise to us in UNISON as it is to you, possibly more. However, there is a silver lining. We have our UNISON health conference imminently, and it will be interesting to see what view the conference delegates take of any attempt to recommend this proposal. And we also have our SGE elections just about to get underway - the ultimate tool of accountability for any UNISON members who feel the existing leadership may not have reflected their views adequately.
